Hi, I’m Sharan, a support worker working with people with disabilities, I enjoy work and find it rewarding though at times very stressful. I’m studying for a Honours Degree in Humanities and learning new things is a passion. I hope to write a book in the future. And travel the world. My friends often tell me that I’m one of those 4am friends, they feel I’m a positive influence in their lives, that’s nice to know but I’m as human as anyone else. Although I have my down moments, I feel through seeing the world for what it really is has made me a positive person, I’ve understood that everyone is different and that’s what makes us unique. When I’m not working I often do some voluntary work with the elderly and love listening to their life experiences. Anything negative upsets me, for example, animal cruelty, and I feel all types of abuse is unacceptable.
I’m not a professional writer but hope to become one at some point. I respect individuals for who they are and appreciate the fact that we can’t all be the same, but we all have one thing in common, all of us are unique.
I feel when I learn something new I want to share it with others, it’s important to express one’s feelings but more important to listen to others, as we all have different points of view.
When I do something for a person I don’t expect anything in return, not because I don’t need anything but because life isn’t about exchanging favours, but rather doing them freely without wanting something in return. Life’s not about loving someone for what they have, but rather loving them unconditionally for who they are. I can see beyond materialistic possessions, I can see there’s more to life than money and fame, sometimes having everything money can buy can’t get rid of that feeling of emptiness within us (which occurs when spiritual satisfaction is missing) so instead It’s better to accept what we already have and be grateful for it, spiritual fulfilment is a beautiful feeling but unfortunately money can’t buy it, it’s truly priceless.
Having worked with people, Old, young, disabled, people with learning difficulties, challenging behaviour, those who communicate through sign language and those who couldn’t communicate at all. Working in different environments has made me open-minded, understanding, patient and adaptable to change.
I thank God for allowing me to experience so much life in such a short time, I hope to do much more and travel the world and experience and see things and places, I don’t know what to expect but I know all of it will be an enriching experience.
